I think traditionally it is made with Apples but O-Mommy always used fresh Plums, in season or Plum Jam when they weren&#8217;t in season. She also used Apricots or Peaches when in season. Plum Gitterkuchen is my fave! Apple is a close second though!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1450\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1450\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/aysontespli.ca\/?attachment_id=1450\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1450\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1450\" title=\"Apple Gitterkuchen with Dusted with Powdered Sugar\" src=\"http:\/\/aysontespli.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/Apple-Gitterkuchen-with-Dusted-with-Powdered-Sugar-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Apple Gitterkuchen with Dusted with Powdered Sugar\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/aysontespli.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/Apple-Gitterkuchen-with-Dusted-with-Powdered-Sugar-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/aysontespli.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/Apple-Gitterkuchen-with-Dusted-with-Powdered-Sugar.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1450\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Apple Gitterkuchen with Dusted with Powdered Sugar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>2 cups Flour<br \/>\n1\/2 cup Sugar<br \/>\n1 teaspoon Baking Powder<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon Salt<br \/>\n1\/2 cup Butter, at room temperature<br \/>\n1\/4 cup milk<br \/>\n1 large Egg<br \/>\n1 teaspoon Vanilla<\/p>\n<p>Preheat oven to 375F (190C)<br \/>\nLightly spray a \u00a024cm Tart\/Quiche pan with Vegetable Oil spray; set aside.<\/p>\n<p>Mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together.<br \/>\nMake a well in the centre; into the centre add butter, milk, egg and vanilla.<br \/>\nMix together using your hands.<br \/>\nTurn out onto lightly floured surface and knead for a few minutes.<br \/>\nRoll dough out to 24 cm circle 1.25cm thickness, and place in prepared pan.<\/p>\n<p>Spread a thin layer of jam , over the dough. The best! I had watched a youtube vid on gittekuchen because O-mommy&#8217;s recipe looked..off. The vid was in German so I didn&#8217;t understand a word of it! But I did like the coconut (or it could have been ground almonds, which would also work nicely) and slivered almonds that the presenter sprinkled on top before adding the lattice.<\/p>\n<p>**Secondly, I couldn&#8217;t find my flan pan (somethings just seem to disappear after years in boxes; maybe my flan pan decided it would move onto a better cupboard and actually get used more than once every 10 years!) \u00a0I used a 25cm springform pan which worked very well other than having to fuss with the &#8220;fluted&#8221; edge a bit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My German Grandmother used to make this all the time!
