Well, I have been making both for years! Date Squares since I first discovered the kitchen as a child. Ok, maybe I didn&#8217;t make them by myself then, but I did get to chop the dates that came in a solid block which had to be painstakingly cut up.<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0This is the Buttertart Square recipe I have been making for the past 20 years. Oh, hey, I learned something interesting; apparently a well made BTS is quintessentially Canadian! Who knew? What the Lamington is to the Aussies! And here I thought Strawberry Shortcake was \u00a0the quintessential Canadian dessert because it graces many a Canada Day Celebrations!<\/p>\n<div>Without further ado&#8230;THE Buttertart Square recipe&#8230;<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/sonteisservingitup\/recipes-1\/theultimatebuttertartsquare\/butter-tart-squares.jpg?attredirects=0\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/sonteisservingitup\/_\/rsrc\/1285019005166\/recipes-1\/theultimatebuttertartsquare\/butter-tart-squares.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>2 1\/4 cups Flour<\/div>\n<div>3 Tablespoons Sugar<\/div>\n<div>3\/4 cup Butter<\/div>\n<div>3 large Eggs<\/div>\n<div>2 cups Brown Sugar<\/div>\n<div>1\/3 cup Butter, melted<\/div>\n<div>1 1\/2 Tablespoons Vinegar<\/div>\n<div>1 1\/2 teaspoons Vanilla<\/div>\n<div>1 Tablespoon Flour<\/div>\n<div>1\/2 teaspoon Salt<\/div>\n<div>2 cups Raisins, soaked and drained<\/div>\n<div>Preheat oven to 350F<\/div>\n<div>Lightly spray a 9X13 pan with Vegetable Oil Spray.<\/div>\n<div>In medium mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar, using a pastry blender.<br \/>\nCut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.<\/div>\n<div>Press into prepared pan and bake for 10 minutes.<\/div>\n<div>Remove from oven and cool on wire rack for 10 minutes.<\/div>\n<div>Meanwhile, in a large mixing bowl beat eggs until light and fluffy.<\/div>\n<div>Stir in brown sugar, melted butter, vinegar, vanilla, flour and salt.<\/div>\n<div>Scatter raisins over the baked crust then pour filling over all.<\/div>\n<div>Bake in 350F oven for 20 &#8211; 25 minutes or just until set and golden brown.<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/sonteisservingitup\/recipes-1\/theultimatebuttertartsquare\/IMG_0112.jpg?attredirects=0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/sonteisservingitup\/_\/rsrc\/1285019004977\/recipes-1\/theultimatebuttertartsquare\/IMG_0112.jpg?height=157&amp;width=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"157\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>Cool.<\/div>\n<div>Cut into 24 squares.<\/div>\n<div>Store leftovers in an airtight container.<\/div>\n<div>These can also be frozen.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Canadian Living magazine put the question out there: Butter Tart Square or Date Square?
