When the kids were little we used to have Gingerbread House Parties every year. The kids are grown and have left home now but I still use this recipe to the delight of my students at Christmas!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_752\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-752\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/aysontespli.ca\/?attachment_id=752\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-752\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-752\" title=\"Gingerbread Cookies\" src=\"http:\/\/aysontespli.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5091-1024x767.jpg\" alt=\"Gingerbread Cookies\" width=\"640\" height=\"479\" srcset=\"http:\/\/aysontespli.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5091-1024x767.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/aysontespli.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5091-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-752\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gingerbread Cookies<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>1 cup packed Brown Sugar<br \/>\n1\/3 cup Shortening<br \/>\n1 1\/2 cups Dark Molasses<br \/>\n2\/3 cup Cold Water<br \/>\n7 cups Flour<br \/>\n2 teaspoons Baking Soda<br \/>\n2 teaspoons Ground Ginger<br \/>\n1 teaspoon Ground Allspice<br \/>\n1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon<br \/>\n1 teaspoon Ground Cloves<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon Salt<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Frosting and Decorations<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n4 cups Icing Sugar<br \/>\n1 teaspoon Vanilla<br \/>\n4 &#8211; 5 Tablespoons Milk<br \/>\nFood Colouring Paste, if desired<\/p>\n<p>Combine icing sugar, vanilla and milk to right consistency in a large mixing bowl and stir until smooth and glossy.<br \/>\nDivide into smaller bowls and add food colouring, if desired.<\/p>\n<p>Preheat oven to 350F.<br \/>\nLightly spray baking sheet with vegetable oil spray.<br \/>\nIn medium mixing bowl combine flour, spices and salt.<br \/>\nIn large bowl, beat brown sugar, shortening, molasses and water with electric mixer, on medium speed.<br \/>\nWith mixer on low speed, add flour mixture a cup at a time, mixing well after the first 3 additions.<br \/>\nSwitch out paddle attachment for dough hook and add remaining flour mixture.<br \/>\nStir on low speed until the dough comes together.<\/p>\n<p>I scoop out about 1\/3 of the dough, onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it, form it into a disc then roll dough out to 1\/4&#8243; (6mm) thick.<br \/>\nCut with floured gingerbread cutter or other shapes.<br \/>\nPlace cookies on prepared baking sheet, 2&#8243; (5cm) apart.<br \/>\nBake 8 &#8211; 10 minutes or until no indentation remains when touched.<br \/>\nImmediately remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack.<br \/>\nCool completely, about 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Frost or pipe borders around Gingerbread Men and decorate with raisins, chocolate chips and candies.<\/p>\n<p>Yield: About 36 Cookies<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Good old fashioned Gingerbread cookie dough perfect for making Gingerbread Men, Gingerbread Houses or delightful Ginger Snaps.
